Great Question, you might be relieved by the answer. With planning a party whatever the size there are so many details to think about, coordinate and plan. However this is something that you can cross off your list, the carpet does NOT need to match your table linens.
When guests walk into a room, they look first at the table , the table linens, the flowers, the ambiance the other friendly faces in the room. Simply put guests just do not look down when they walk in. Can you remember what the carpet looked like at the last party you were at? Was it carpet or hardwood floor? Tile?
Many of our clients like to choose the table linens first because they can help set the tone of the event, in addition the table lines are what takes up the most space visually in the room.

I guess carpets and linen don’t need to match, but when they do the effect is like an extra leg-up in class and sophistication. On the other hand, a truly well-laid table and impressive linen and cutlery set will also stand on its own.
Thanks for your comment- of course its fantastic when everything is perfect- When an event is at a home its a lot easier to have the carpet match. Some Brides and Grooms come to us, saying they can’t find a carpet they like in any ballroom where they want to get married. Hotels do a great job of finding carpets that are durable and match the room, at times Brides and Grooms and other clients having events- well their taste does just not go with the carpet at times. . With that said, it’s our experience over the last 27 years as well as feedback from clients – that they did not even notice the carpet that was not their favorite- once the room was set up – that is all they focused on. I hope that makes sense, but of course beautiful carpet would only add to any event.
