Comprehensive Eye Exams
Regular eye exams are an invaluable tool in maintaining healthy eyes by detecting and preventing disease in both adults and children. Some diseases develop slowly without causing pain or vision loss. Early detection of any problems can reduce the risk of further harm and allow for a choice of treatment options. Part of your exam may include the following: Vision Check, Eye Pressure Check, Slit Lamp Examination, Dilated Eye Exam, Refraction for Glasses & Contact Lenses and Glaucoma Screening Testing.
Diabetic Retinopathy
If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, you may be at risk of losing your vision since your body does not utilize sugar properly and, when the sugar levels rise, damage to the retinal blood vessels may occur. This injury to the retinal vessels is known as Diabetic Retinopathy. Diabetic Retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in working-age adults. It is very important to manage your eye health care when you have diabetes, in order to lessen your risk of vision loss due to eye disease.
Glaucoma Diagnosis and Management
Glaucoma, the leading cause of blindness and visual impairment in the United States, is an eye disease that can lead to a permanent loss of vision. We provide diagnostic and treatment options for glaucoma care. Glaucoma generally provides no warning signs or symptoms of disease, making testing an important part of a full vision exam. We utilize the latest and most advanced computerized tests to diagnose glaucoma. For those who require treatment options, there are many, including topical eye drop self-administration, laser treatment, which can be utilized for precise, quick healing, and more advanced surgical options, for those difficult and advanced cases of glaucoma.
For our glaucoma patients, we offer Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty (SLT). This glaucoma laser procedure is painless, and if successful, can result in better control of glaucoma and reduction or elimination of expensive medications.
Refractive Cataract Surgery
Modern cataract surgery is an outstanding example of surgical and technological innovation. It is among the safest of all surgeries, with highly accurate, precise outcomes. By restoring vision, cataract surgery enhances personal and public safety. It measurably improves both function and quality of life for literally millions of people.
Dr. Cravey performs Phacoemulsification, or small incision cataract surgery, in which a small incision is made to the side of the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped surface that covers the front of the eye. He will insert a tiny probe into the eye. This device emits ultrasound waves that soften and break up the lens so that it can be removed by suction.
An intraocular lens (IOL) replaces the natural lens that is removed during surgery. The IOL requires no care and becomes a permanent part of your eye.
Occasionally, someone will not be able to have an IOL due to another eye disease or problems during surgery. For these patients, a soft contact lens, or glasses that provide high magnification, may be suggested.
NearVision CK
NearVision CK can help improve your vision, allowing you to see clearly like you could 10 years ago. It's an exciting new advancement in vision correction because it uses radio waves instead of a laser to treat your vision problem. Dr. Cravey is the only physician in Kerrville performing this procedure.
How is it done?
Dr. Cravey uses a small pen-like instrument, the tip less than the diameter of a human hair, to place a number of spots around the perimeter of your eye. The area tightens where the spots are placed. It is like a belt tightening around your cornea to steepen it; this helps improve your near vision.
